Jake Comeaux is the Senior quarterback for the Brandon Valley Lynx. This season the Lynx are 3-2, with their two losses coming against Yankton and Roosevelt.

Brandon Valley was victorious last week, 38-21, in their homecoming game against Washington High School. In that game Comeaux completed 29 of 34 passes for 257 yards and four touchdowns. He also ran in a touchdown, showing that he can be a versatile player.

Comeaux explained his time with the Brandon Valley Lynx’s has been monumental.

“It’s been awesome the past four years. I love the coaches, they’re great coaches. I think they are one of the best coaches in the state. They really know their stuff, they love offense, they love defense, and they treat everyone equally,” said Comeaux.

The senior Lynx player said the quarterback position has taught him leadership skills that he can apply to life.

“Being quarterback at Brandon Valley is an honor. There’s a lot of tradition here throwing, we throw a lot every game, so have to live up to those expectations, but it’s great,” said Comeaux.

Austin Sumner, senior quarterback at South Dakota State University, also played football at Brandon Valley in high school. While there, Sumner gained a strong reputation for being one of the best quarterbacks in the state of South Dakota. Comeaux is also being included in a similar discussion.

He said Austin Sumner is a person he looks up to.

“Just to be mentioned in the same sentence is an honor. I can only hope to play D1 football the way he is,” Comeaux said.

Comeaux said he plans to continue playing football after high school, but he’s not sure where that will be yet.

“I’m not really leaning anywhere right now, but I’m in touch with a few schools,” said Comeaux.

He said he wants to designate all his attention to this season with Brandon Valley right now, and worry about next year later. Comeaux thinks this years Lynx’s team could compete for a state title.

“This year we’re pretty senior heavy, we’re very experienced. Our losses this year just came off unlucky plays, we just shot ourselves in the foot against Yankton and Roosevelt. I think if we limit our mistakes, the mental mistakes, then we’ll be there with the number one teams,” said Comeaux.

Brandon Valley is on a bye week this week, but will travel to Aberdeen on Oct. 10 to take on Aberdeen Central. They return home on Oct. 17 when Pierre travels to Brandon, SD.
