YANKTON, S.D. (AP) — Archers from 17 countries are in Yankton for the International Field Archery Association World Field Championships.

The tournament is Monday through Friday at the National Field Archery Association complex at Yankton. Lt. Gov. Matt Michels took part in the opening ceremonies on Sunday night.

Fifteen-year-old Peter Hearne came from Australia to compete. He tells the Daily Press and Dakotan that it took him 20 hours of travel to get to the event, but it was worth it.

The international tournament follows the NFAA Outdoor National Championships, which wrapped up Sunday. Yankton is hosting the 2015 World Archery Youth Championships next summer.
