Only 14 zoos in the United States even have snow monkeys, but here in Sioux Falls they keep making more!

A brand new male baby snow monkey has been born at the Great Plains Zoo. He joins five other snow monkeys (also called Japanese Macaques), which have been born here in Sioux Falls.

We say all the time how fortunate we are to have so many diverse animals at our amazing zoo. But what truly makes our zoo so remarkable is the number of species considered to be threatened or endangered, which are thriving (read that as reproducing) under the care of the dedicated zoo professionals.

It is worth noting that the Great Plains Zoo is an accredited member of the Association of Zoos and Aquariums (AZA). This puts our zoo in the upper stratosphere of zoo organizations. Less than 10% of U.S. animal institutions even meet the incredibly high AZA standards.

The AZA is all about conservation, education, science and recreation and when you go to a facility which has met their standards, you can be assured you're at one of the best zoos in the U.S., like our Great Plains Zoo!
