The South Dakota Board of Medical and Osteopathic Examiners revoked Annette Bosworth’s medical license. After nearly an hour of testimony, it took about 20 minutes in executive session for the group to render the decision.

During a trial in May 2015 Bosworth was convicted of violating election laws. When she ran as a candidate for U.S. Senate in 2014, she gathered petitions in order to make her eligible to be placed on the ballot. However she did not uphold the requirement that the one who circulates the petition witness the signature. This occurred on a few of the petitions she submitted.

Six counts each of perjury and filing false documents, which are all felonies, could have landed Bosworth in jail. Instead she was sentenced to probation and community service.

During the hearing, Bosworth reiterated that she admittedly made a mistake in not following election law. She also testified to her community service work she was doing on the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation.

Attorney Craig Kennedy was the only other person allowed to speak at the gathering. He testified that Bosworth’s lack of character and honesty should prevent her from practicing medicine.

It’s the second time that Bosworth had to plea for mercy from the panel. She once hired a physician’s assistant in her medical practice who wasn't properly licensed and the board allowed her to keep her license in 2012.
