Officials gave a tour and answered questions from a group of 25 people who came to observe how the Midco Aquatic Center construction is progressing.

Citizen questions ranged from concerns about both indoor and outdoor elements of the nearly 24 million dollar project. Sean Ervin of architecture firm TSP Incorporated says even with multiple rains, construction goals are being met.

“Were doing really well several weeks ahead (of schedule),” says Ervin. “Right now we’re scheduled to be done in the fall of ’16 and it looks like that will be attainable. Even though we’ve had some pretty big rains, (the weather) has been cooperating pretty well.”

Ervin points out that plenty of care is being taken with the outside of the Aquatic Center. For example there will be less hard surface and more green area than first anticipated and additional trees will be planted. “We’re actually putting in more trees than we’re taking out. So those park areas that are up high on the hill and those activity zones will primarily have trees between them and the building so that it helps keep the park atmosphere.”

Sioux Falls Construction and Sioux Falls Parks and Recreation were also involved in conducting the one hour tour.
