Blake Shelton was so sure he'd have another win on his hands for The Voice, but Season 12 saw Team Alicia's Chris Blue come out on top. In a press conference following the season finale Tuesday night (May 23), Alicia Keys shared her excitement about beating Shelton.

“Ladies and gentleman, it has been a great dream of mine to put a whippin’ on Blake Shelton,” Keys, a newer coach, told reporters (quote via Parade). "I couldn’t wait for the day, when I could say, ‘Blake, nah, nah nah.’"

Shelton had two contestants in the final four, both country-inspired: Lauren Duski and Aliyah Moulden.

"Lauren [Duski] is phenomenal, by the way," she continues. "I am so, so proud of everybody who was on that stage tonight. This whole season has been such a beautiful group of people. Lauren is especially special, so it was wonderful to see both up there together, but I am proud to be the winner of Season 12.”

Blue was actually the last contestant selected to compete in Season 12 of the reality singing competition. And he almost didn't audition for the show.

“I don’t think I could see," Blue said upon hearing his name announced as The Voice winner. "I couldn’t open my eyes. I saw darkness and my eyes started to burn from the makeup. For a second there I began to think about that moment I was in my car driving to Atlanta and fear began to overtake me, so I called my fiancée at the time, actually. She talked me into going and just trying it. My mom and my family always believed in me, so I was like, ‘If they don’t like me, I won’t tell anyone that I tried out for The Voice.'” It looks like Blue won't be having that problem.

This is Keys' first win, but Shelton has had winners in five of twelve The Voice seasons: Jermaine Paul, Cassadee Pope, Danielle Bradbery, Craig Wayne Boyd and last season's Sundance Head.
