Thousands of area farmers and ranchers attended Ag Appreciation Day at the Sioux Empire Fair on Wednesday.

Teri Schmidt of the Sioux Falls Convention and Visitors Bureau was at the event collecting admission tickets.  "You know it's a beautiful day out here at the fair. There are thousands of coming through the line for the complimentary lunch.  There's a beautiful pork sandwich for everyone.  We are appreciating the farmers today!"

More than 6,500 admission tickets were distributed to area producers for the luncheon.

The event is held each year during the Sioux Empire Fair to honor farmers and ranchers and is a small token to say "thank you" to producers for their tireless efforts in producing the food that we eat every day.

More than 250 volunteers from area businesses who sponsor the event were on hand to help serve the meal.
