Aberdeen Councilman Questions High-speed Chase

ABERDEEN, S.D. (AP) - An Aberdeen alderman says residents are complaining about a late-night high-speed vehicle chase through residential neighborhoods.

The American News says the chase happened last week when a man in a Dodge pickup took off after he was pulled over by police for reckless driving. The suspect is believed to have reached speeds of 80 to 90 mph at times during the 3-mile chase.

Councilman Mark Remily said during Monday's meeting that the chase disrupted the neighborhood and "people were scared out there." Remily said police were close enough to see the license plate and should have arrested the suspect later rather than pursue him.

Aberdeen Police Chief Don Lanpher said that while the suspect was driving fast, it does not mean that police were traveling at 80 mph.
