A Music Legend Dies

Joe South
JoeSouth.com

Singer-songwriter Joe South, who wrote hits like “Games People Play,” and “Down in the Boondocks” in the 1960s and 70s, has died. He was 72.

He was an inductee in the Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame and the Georgia Music Hall of Fame. He played guitar on Aretha Franklin’s “Chain of Fools,” Bob Dylan’s “Blonde on Blonde” and albums by Eddy Arnold and Marty Robbins.

South, whose real name was Joseph Souter, died at his home in Buford, Ga., northeast of Atlanta, according to Marion Merck of the Hall County Coroner’s office. Merck said South died after having a heart attack.

He also had hits with “Walk A Mile In My Shoes” and “Don’t It Make You Want to Go Home,” and wrote the Grammy-nominated “(I Never Promised You a) Rose Garden” for country singer Lynn Anderson.

Joe South in my opinion was one of the greatest songwriters of all time. He will be missed by many who loved him in the music business.
