Let me see if I can get this straight.  We're two weeks away from June, Memorial Day is less than a week away and we're gonna have to cover up our plants on Monday night. Huh?

You probably figured you wouldn't need to run the furnace again for at least a few months, right? Not so fast!

Cooler air, really cool air, is returning to the Sioux Empire, thanks to a slow moving low pressure system that is ushering in much cooler air to start off the week. The projected cooler overnight temps have already caused the National Weather Service in Sioux Falls to place several counties under a freeze warning Monday night into Tuesday.

According to our friends at KDLT TV, the colder air on the backside is being brought in by a high pressure system which will also act to clear our skies overnight on Tuesday as well.

Let me guess, if you're like a number of people, you've probably already done some planting this spring?

Thanks to this late season freeze, you'll want to cover those plants up, or bring them inside if you can. Another good way to protect plants during a late freeze is to water them adequately a day or two before hand, to prevent desiccation and give plant soil cells extra insulation. The good news, with all the precipitation we've received over the past couple of days in the Sioux Empire, Mother Nature has probably already taken care of that for you.

This cold snap should be short lived thank goodness. The weather guys say we will be back into the low to mid 50's for overnight temps by the weekend.
