Helping the homeless is a noble act of charity, right? Well, not everyone sees it that way.

Police in Fort Lauderdale, Florida have charged a 90-year-old man for feeding the homeless, as part of the city's pledge to enforce an ordinance which essentially forbids citizens from giving them food in public.

Arnold Abbott was cited, along with a pair of ministers. Now, the three men are looking at possible sentences of up to two months behind bars.

Abbott described the moment when authorities confronted him:

One of the police officers said, 'Drop that plate right now,' as if I were carrying a weapon. It's man's inhumanity to man is all it is."

Abbott has a history of doing battle with Fort Lauderdale. In 1999, he successfully sued the city to let him feed the homeless on a local beach.

Fifteen years later, he says he has no qualms taking more legal action.

What do you think? Is the city wrong or does the man need to obey the law?
