Police officers wrote more than 500 tickets for vehicles that were parked in the way of snowplows in Sioux Falls this week.

Police spokesman Sam Clemens says 506 tickets were written between the Snow Alert declaration on Wednesday and 6am Friday.

Clemens says officers begin writing tickets after streets and roads have been plowed, so the vehicles ticketed are those that were plowed in.

As he puts it, "It's not that we're going out and yanking cars off the street."

He says the 506 tickets were all written by police officers, while the Parking Patrol also issues tickets which are not included in the total.

A ticket carries a fine of $35, which increases to $70 if the ticket is not paid after three days.
