Jackie Robinson ’42′ Featurette
‘42‘ looks fascinating, and not just for Harrison Ford‘s weird make-up. Relaying the biography of Jackie Robinson, it shows how the star baseball player (played by Chadwick Boseman) had to struggle against the prejudices that didn’t want to see professional baseball become integrated. Now there’s a featurette that plays up Robinson’s historical significance.
And to do so they’ve brought out Robinson’s widow alongside baseball legend Hank Aaron to talk about the role Robinson played, along with comments from the cast and director Brian Helgeland. Maybe it’s just us, but this looks like it could be both a great sports movie and a great bio-pic. The material is there.
Here’s the synopsis:
Warner Bros. Pictures and Legendary Pictures are teaming up with director Brian Helgeland for “42,” the powerful story of Jackie Robinson, the legendary baseball player who broke Major League Baseball’s color barrier when he joined the roster of the Brooklyn Dodgers. “42″ will star Academy Award(R) nominee Harrison Ford (“Witness”) as the innovative Dodger’s general manager Branch Rickey, the MLB executive who first signed Robinson to the minors and then helped to bring him up to the show, and Chadwick Boseman (“The Express”) as Robinson, the heroic African American who was the first man to break the color line in the big leagues.
And here’s that featurette. ’42′ hits theaters April 12:
