SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (AP) — Sioux Falls authorities say four residents and several of their pets have escaped from a house fire that began in the attic.

The Argus Leader reports fire officials were notified Monday about the blaze from a person passing by the home.

Sioux Falls Fire Rescue Battalion Chief Mark Bukovich says heavy smoke and flames could be seen from the roof of the residence when crews arrived at the scene.

Bukovich says two dogs and an iguana are accounted for, but one of the residents' cats is still missing.

An investigation into what caused the fire is ongoing.
