300lb. Wooden Bear Stolen in South Dakota
A 300 lb. bear that graced the entrance of a Rapid City, SD. hotel has apparently been stolen. The Best Western Ramkota Hotel reported the unofficial greeter stolen earlier this week.
A security staff, maintenance crew, and a front desk clerk were on duty at the time of the theft.
The hotel’s general manager, Jan Justin, is somewhat surprised, saying, “It takes probably three guys to pick him up and move him.”
The giant bear had been at the front entrance of the hotel since 1999 but was moved recently to a maintenance shop after a vehicle hit it, knocking it down and breaking its nose.
Apparently, this city attracts thefts of this magnitude. A 12- foot fiberglass shark was stolen in May from Pirates Cove Adventure Golf which is located on the same street where the bear once stood.
