LEAD, S.D. (AP) — Law enforcement authorities in Lead have identified the sheriff's deputies who are on administrative leave for their involvement in a shooting that resulted in the death of a suspect.

Lawrence County Sheriff Brian Dean tells the Black Hills Pioneer three deputies were involved in the exchange of fire Wednesday with 31-year-old Rory Gunderman, of Sundance, Wyoming.

Dean says Detective Joe Leveque, Sgt. Pat Johnson and Matt McCroden are on leave per standard procedure.

Authorities say Gunderman shot at the deputies during a foot pursuit and they fired back, injuring the suspect. The foot pursuit ensued after Gunderman drove a reportedly stolen vehicle onto a dead-end road.

Gunderman died at a Rapid City hospital.

The state Division of Criminal Investigation will issue details of the incident within a month.
