SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (AP) — Avera is launching a $25 million expansion of its retirement community in Sioux Falls.

Ground was broken Thursday for the 11/2-year project at Avera Prince of Peace. The project will move 90 skilled-care beds into a new two-story building, expand sections for assisted living and rehabilitation, provide a larger chapel and add retail businesses along a main street in the 26-acre complex.

Avera McKennan Hospital CEO David Kapaska says consumer demands have made the upgrades necessary.
