2013 Sioux Empire Sportsmen’s Show Helps Fight Diabetes

SIOUX FALLS - Each year at the Sioux Empire Sportsmen’s Show you’ll find members of the Sioux Falls Cosmopolitan Clubs working to raise money for people with diabetes.  The Sportsmen’s Show features about 200 exhibitors displaying the latest in hunting, fishing, boating and outdoor recreation needs.

Cenaiko Productions puts on the Sportsmen’s Show and the Cosmopolitan Club members work shifts selling raffle tickets and taking tickets at the door.

The Cosmopolitan clubs receive a percentage of the ticket sales.“All the money we raise we give away for diabetes related care,” said Casey Tomac Cosmopolitan Club member.

Tomac says each year the club sends children with diabetes to Camp Gilbert, http://www.campgilbert.com/ a summer camp near Waubay, South Dakota that is especially for children with diabetes.

“The kids can interact with other kids who have diabetes and it’s more comfortable for them when they have to stop what they’re doing to test their blood sugar levels,” said Tomac. Volunteer nurses work at the camp to care for the children while they’re away from their families.

The Cosmopolitan Club has a booth at the show where they sell raffle tickets for several major prizes that are donated. The Sportsmen’s Show starts Thursday at 5:00 pm and runs through Sunday at 6:00pm at the Sioux Falls Arena and Convention Center.
