SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (AP) — Investigators in the Sioux Falls area say arrests made in two cold case killings in less than two weeks were coincidence.

The Minnehaha County Sheriff's Office last month made an arrest in the 1989 killing of Kimberly Eidsness, who was found shot to death in her home.

Sioux Falls police a short time later made an arrest in the 2011 slaying of Daniel Eastman, a homeless man found beaten and stabbed in a downtown alley.

Investigators tell the Argus Leader that the arrests were a result of two departments independently deciding to apply new perspective and technology to old unsolved cases.
