$16.5 Million Boost for Health Care Job Training

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (AP) — The federal government is betting $16.5 million that a group of South Dakota technical institutes and tribal colleges can boost the state's health care workforce.

U.S. Labor Secretary Thomas Perez says the South Dakota Allied Health Training Consortium will receive the money during the next four years.

The Argus Leader reports the schools will create or replicate innovative training to move more adults into high-paying health care jobs in the state that are in demand.

The schools and amount going to each: Southeast Technical Institute in Sioux Falls, $5.3 million; Lake Area Technical Institute in Watertown, $2.5 million; Oglala Lakota College in Kyle, $1.6 million; Mitchell Technical Institute in Mitchell, $2.7 million; Sinte Gleska University in Mission, $2.3 million; and Western Dakota Technical Institute in Rapid City, $2.1 million.
